Richard “Boz” Bosworth, CEO of an off-Strip ownership group, has resigned from his position.
Bosworth served as the managing partner of J.C. Hospitality, which includes Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, the company that acquired Hard Rock Las Vegas.
Owners of the Hard Rock Las Vegas have included Juniper Capital Partners, Virgin Group, LiUNA, Fengate Asset Management, Dream and Orlando Development.
In 2018, Bosworth acquired Hard Rock for $500m and then managed over $200m more in development, which led to a re-opening in March 2021. He also brought in Mohegan Gaming for casino operations within the resort.
Virgin Hotels and Hilton Hotel’s Curio Collection oversee the hotel’s rooms and suites while Mohegan runs the gaming floor. The property’s restaurants have eight different operators, while AEG runs Virgin’s events center at the resort.
The 2021 re-opening of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas included a party, but it wasn’t until June 2021 that Virgin was able to host a larger event, including Christina Aguilera and a surprise entrance from Virgin’s billionaire founder Branson.
Mohegan ended up paying a $60,000 fine to Nevada gaming regulators to settle a five-count violation of Covid-19 guidelines during the casino’s celebrations.
Though Betfred Sportsbook was licensed in January, the casino was also without a sportsbook for nearly two years. Mohegan Casino General Manager Joe Hasson called the absence of a sportsbook “challenging” at the time.
Vital Vegas first stated Bosworth’s departure on Twitter and a J.C. Hospitality statement announced his resignation in February. Bosworth will retain an ownership stake in the resort.
J.C. Hospitality said, “Bosworth will be taking the next step in his career as he moves on to pursue new ventures in hospitality; Bosworth will remain an investor.”
