William Hill has expanded its United States footprint by opening sportsbooks in Illinois and the District of Columbia.

William Hill US is partnering with Grand Victoria Casino Elgin, a riverboat styled venue northwest of Chicago.

The casino is owned and operated by Caesars. William Hill will take over operations at Caesars properties as part of Eldorado's acquisition.

David Grolman, President of Operations for William Hill, said: “Grand Victoria Casino is located just outside of Chicago – where some of the most passionate sports fans in the country live. I’m looking forward to seeing the community come together to watch their favorite teams as we welcome back the return of our favorite professional sports.”

William Hill has also opened a land-based sportsbook at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. Capital One Arena is the first professional sports facility to hold a sportsbook.

Joe Asher, CEO of William Hill US, said: “Washington, D.C. is known for its dedicated sports fans, and we're excited to finally bring them a new way to engage with their favorite teams. Being the first to open a retail location in a professional sports venue wouldn't be possible without our relationship with Ted Leonsis and his team at Monumental.

“Our teams are working hard to finalize the permanent sports book, restaurant and bar concept we originally envisioned inside the arena.”
