Nevada data shows 123 visitors COVID-19 positive since re-opening of casinos

State health data has shown that at least 123 visitors to the state of Nevada have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent weeks.

Casinos re-opened in Nevada on June 4 following a period of forced closures spanning nearly three months.

The week casinos re-opened, 16 visitors tested positive for COVID-19 in the state, according to data from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services.

This number increased over the following weeks. The largest spike came between June 22 and June 28, when 31 visitors tested positive for the virus.

Californians have accounted for 46% of Nevada visitors to test positive for COVID-19 while visiting or shortly after returning home.

Overall, Nevada has seen almost 32,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 626 deaths. The ratio of new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents in Nevada is currently higher than the national average.

A new report from the White House has named Nevada as one of 11 states in the ‘red zone’ for COVID-19.

As a result of the spike in cases, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak has shut down bars in the state for the second time.
