Members of the New York State Assembly are being polled on whether they would welcome the legalization of mobile sports wagering, according to the New York Post.
Governor Andrew Cuomo and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie were previously opposed to mobile sports betting.
However, staffers for Heastie have interestingly begun to query lawmakers on the matter.
Many responses were in favour of legalizing mobile betting, even from politicians previously against the idea.
This was mainly prompted by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
It was recently announced New York City’s land-based casinos will remain closed for the time being, as the state government continues to review scientific data.
But, with no online offering, the state is significantly lagging behind nearby New Jersey for betting tax revenue.
Indeed, $84.9m was generated by New Jersey's online casinos for the month of June.
