This will be Virginia’s first full-service, permanent casino that is open all hours.

The Rivers Casino Portsmouth has announced it is set to stage a grand opening to the public on January 15. The $340m casino is part of a planned Entertainment District envisioned in Portsmouth, Virginia which will be located just south of I-264.

The casino has long been in development, with its groundbreaking ceremony taking place back in December 2021 by its owners Rush Street Interactive (RSI). Portsmouth city voters overwhelmingly approved the casino development via referendum in November 2020.

RSI CEO Tim Drehkoff commented: “We’re grateful to the Virginia Lottery Board, the City of Portsmouth, and the Hampton Roads community for their continued support. It’s been exciting to watch the building go up and we’re eager for the public to see what’s inside.”

The casino is going to boast an expansive gaming floor with 1,448 slot machines, 57 table games and 24 poker tables.

The Topgolf Swing Suites will be overlooking a BetRivers Sportsbook, they will feature high-def screens designed for sports viewing. Sportswriter windows are located within the retail sportsbook, along with 27 self-serve betting kiosks.

A variety of cuisine will also be offered at the casino which will bring ten new restaurants and bars all under one roof. The eateries include a high-end dinery at Admiral’s Steak and Seafood, casual dining at Crossings Café, Asian cuisine, Starbucks, Slice Pizzeria and more.

The Event Center, a 25,000 square-foot multipurpose reception area and grand hall, will host all types of grand events including weddings, exhibition centers and concerts featuring headline performers.

The casino’s Rush Rewards Players Club is now open for guests to sign up for, in advance, at the casino’s local website.

Rivers Casino Portsmouth General Manager Roy Corby commented: “In the coming weeks, we’ll remain laser-focused on continued hiring and training efforts – ensuring our team is ready to deliver a first-rate customer experience when our doors open in January.”
