BetMGM has announced that its casino, the Borgata, will be hosting a week of poker tournaments from January 2 to January 9, 2023. This includes the titular main event: ‘The Return: A Borgata Championship Event,’ a four-day tournament with a grand prize pool of $3m.
Borgata Director of Poker Operations Vincent Alonge Jr. commented: “The return of championship poker to Borgata is a long time coming. Borgata is the premier gaming destination on the East Coast, which includes best-in-class poker tournaments.”
The Championship Tournament commences on January 4 and requires a $5,300 buy-in, with a guaranteed prize pool of $3m. The overall winner will take $1m of this sum.
BetMGM will be hosting a number of online qualifiers, while Borgata Poker will separately hold in-person qualifiers for ‘The Return,’ which includes a $540+60 Big Stack No Limit Hold’Em tournament on January 3.
There will be an additional two guaranteed events running from January 6 – January 8: a $1,000 Borgata Bounty Event and a $10,000 Super Survivor Event.
Meanwhile, the inaugural tournament, beginning on the 2nd, is called the Mystery Bounty and features $1m in guaranteed ‘bounties.’ Mystery Bounty allows players to draw Mystery Bounty envelopes after eliminating an opponent, with one envelope enclosed with a top prize of $250,000.
BetMGM Director of Poker Luke Staudenmaier commented: “BetMGM recognizes the strong legacy of tournaments at Borgata and is thrilled to collaborate with the team to bring online qualifiers to ’The Return.'
“In the upcoming months, we look forward to offering online poker players various ways to qualify for this momentous event which will kick off 2023 with a bang!”
Early registration for the Championship Event and Mystery Bounty opens on December 1, available through the BetMGM poker app. In-person sign-ups for all events commence on January 1 in the Borgata’s Poker Room.
Participants must have an MGM Rewards account to participate in the tournament.
