World Champion Fantasy (WCF), an online fantasy esports platform, has announced a strategic esports partnership with Edigio to power the upcoming release of its PlayerX platform. PlayerX is set to introduce a host of innovative features for esports tournaments.
Edigio says its existing UpLynk platform will enable WCF to go to market quickly and scale up operations with fewer resources. The upcoming esports platform will allow video to be synced with player data (for example, kills and headshots) from esports tournaments.
PlayerX will also enable player and team statistics to be tagged, cataloged, and uploaded as searchable video clips – allowing fans to stream, promote, and share esports highlights.
WCF’s PlayerX combines elements of traditional fantasy sports with esports. It allows fans to assemble a dream team of esports athletes and then livestream games that simultaneously display stats and game insights.
There will be more innovative features aimed at a younger demographic of bettors, with customizable interactive avatars, theme music and new chat capabilities.
Subscribers to PlayerX will be able to search multiple platforms for the most up-to-date information and highlights of their favorite streamers and athletes.
World Cup Fantasy CEO Mike Vela commented: “This is a big deal for the future of fantasy sports – and Edgio understood this vision. This partnership puts the fantasy sports user experience front and center, utilizing data, engagement insights, and streaming capabilities to deliver dynamic and engaging fan experiences.”
Edigio CEO Bob Lyons matched his counterpart’s enthusiasm over this partnership. He commented: “Working with WCF, Edgio will provide our industry-leading technology and streaming solutions to one of the fastest growing and influential market segments – esports.
“This collaboration will help us better understand the needs and behaviors of our esports streaming customers and use those insights to improve our products and services.”
