The city council cleared the building of a new hotel and casino on Boulder Highway in Nevada.

This week, the Henderson City Council approved the building of a new Jokers Wild hotel and casino on Boulder Highway. The council members voted 4-1 in favor of the proposal submitted by the Jokers Wild parent company Boyd Gaming.

The project will start with phase one which is focused on building a new casino north of the existing Jokers Wild building, located at the corner of Boulder Highway and Warm Springs Road.

A Boyd Gaming representative told the city council members that the existing building would be demolished after the construction of the new venue is completed.

The second phase of the project revealed that a new hotel would be built on the southern portion of the site and would expand the casino.

Plans for the casino revealed a 50,000 square-feet floor, with 650 slot machines and six table games in phase one. There are also plans for a 24-hour gastropub and a space for live entertainment.

Hotel plans featured 114 rooms over four stories and the phase two expansion of the casino would add an additional 20,000 square feet. In that area, 550 slot machines and six table games would be placed.

The Jokers Wild location first opened as the Cattle Baron Casino in 1990 but was closed in 1993. It reopened a short time later under the name Jokers Wild.

Boyd Gaming operates twenty-eight gaming venues across ten states, including eleven properties in Las Vegas. The group recently broke ground on its $100m project to redevelop the Treasure Chest riverboat casino in Kenner, Louisiana.
