The WarHorse Casino in Lincoln, Nebraska brought in $285,963 in tax revenue through its first week of operations, which began on September 24.
The temporary casino offers 433 slot machines and is located in the Lincoln Race Course simulcasting building.
Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission Director, Tom Sage, stated that he didn’t have an accounting of the exact total amount wagered through the first week.
Sage commented: "I know the first day was several million (dollars)."
The tax imposed on Nebraska casinos is 20% of revenue which would mean that the WarHorse Casino likely earned $1.4m in its opening week.
Fonner Park in Grand Island, Nebraska is hoping to have a temporary casino with 300 slot machines open by Thanksgiving.
There are also plans for WarHorse to open a transitional casino at Horsemen’s Park in Omaha with 800 slot machines, and has plans for a spring 2023 launch.
The WarHorse Lincoln Casino Resort is expected to open in November of 2024.
The initial plans call for a casino with over 1,100 slot machines, 100 table games, a sportsbook and both live and simulcast horse racing.
The group first broke ground on the location in July of 2022 and was overseen by Ho-Chuck, Inc., the parent company of WarHorse Gaming and Garald Wollesen, the Nebraska Horsemen President.
Ho-Chuck, Inc. President and CEO Lance Morgan said: "We’re thrilled to have reached this point.
"It’s been a long road getting here since the voters approved the initiatives back in 2020, but we’re very excited for all the opportunities WarHorse Lincoln will bring to the community and look forward to delivering on our promise of keeping the money in Nebraska."
