Fertitta plans to build the resort on a plot of real estate he purchased this year for $270m.

Tilman Fertitta, a Houston-based billionaire, has announced plans to build a new 43-story resort on the Las Vegas Strip. The resort will be nestled on a plot of real estate purchased by Fertitta in 2022 for $270m.

The plot is roughly six acres and sits at the southeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue.

The plans revealed space for restaurants, conventions, a spa, a wedding chapel, an auto showroom and a theater with around 2,500 seats.

Plans also included the addition of suites and villas, VIP salons and a bar and lounge area for high-limit gamblers.

On October 19, the Clark County Commission is scheduled to consider the project plans. Fertitta already owns the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas but has yet to build anything on the Las Vegas Strip.

Fertitta Entertainment Executive Vice President of Development Jeff Cantwell said: "We have acquired a truly unique piece of real estate and are actively exploring this development opportunity. While we continue to go through the review and planning process, no firm decision has yet been made concerning our future plans."

Along with the Golden Nugget, Fertitta owns restaurants, hotels and the NBA's Houston Rockets. According to Forbes Magazine, he has an estimated net worth of $7.7bn.

Other projects including a three-story retail complex have also been approved for the same area of the Strip where Fertitta plans to build the new resort.

Developer Brett Torino and New York’s Flag Luxury Group are also building a four-story retail complex at the southwest corner.
