Larry Flynt's Hustler Casino in LA experienced one of the biggest poker scandals in modern history when a newcomer allegedly hustled poker veteran Garrett Adelstein out of a $269,000 pot. ‘Glam’ poker player Robbi Jade Lew left everyone speechless when she called with only a Jack-high, despite Adelstein representing a big hand.
Commentators on the live stream questioned whether the monitor showing Jade Lew’s hand might be broken – “What is going on here. Is it possible her hand might be misread in the card graphics?” Adelstein’s reaction to the reveal of the hand speaks volumes and afterward he asserted that she “clearly cheated.”
Adelstein was betting high as he had 7-8 suited clubs, and the flop revealed a straight, flush and straight-flush draw for him. Jade Lew, meanwhile, never had any interest in the hand at all, leading to poker fans and commentators bewilderment as to the reasoning behind her call.
Many poker fans say that if she wasn’t cheating, then it was one of the best ‘hero calls’ ever made.
One popular theory going around is that she used a vibrating device about her person. This is the same exact accusation that chess champion Magnus Carlsen leveled at Hans Niemann after his defeat by the American.
Jade Lew returned the money to Adelstein after the hand was over, however she insisted that this move was not an admission of guilt on her part. She even implied intimidation was used by Adelstein, saying that he cornered her in a “dark alleyway” to confront her about the hand.
Hustler Casino said investigators could conduct a lie detector test. Initially they said there was “no proof either way or any indication of any wrongdoing besides the accusations of parties involved.”
