The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and the Michigan Gaming Control Board have published their online gaming results from the first half of 2022. In a report compiled by Oddseeker.com, figures show that New Jersey has taken the lead over Michigan in online casino and poker site activity.
According to the report, online casino and poker sites in New Jersey brought in a total revenue of more than $814.5m during the first half of the year. Activity from online casino and poker sites in Michigan brought in $757m in revenue.
The top three online casino spots in New Jersey went to BetMGM, Caesars and DraftKings. In Michigan, BetMGM, BetRivers and Caesars grabbed the top three places in online casino activity.
New Jersey posted a large month in March when its online casinos reported an all-time high in revenue, yielding more than $140.6m during that month. March activity was a large factor in why the state pulled ahead of Michigan during the first six months of 2022.
Despite the surge of play in New Jersey in the front half of the year, Oddseeker.com sports editor Frank Weber said Michigan is poised to pull ahead and come out on top by year’s end.
He commented: "Based on the year over year growth trajectory for New Jersey, since inception, it seems clear that Michigan will inevitably pass New Jersey in online gambling revenues and become the largest and most important betting and iGaming market in America."
Online gambling has been legal in Michigan since January 2021 and in New Jersey since November 2013.
