Hollywood Casino teams up with Kansas Speedway for NASCAR Cup Series
The company will build a sportsbook at the racetrack and rename the Cup Series.
Sports betting became legal in Kansas on July 1 and now gambling operators are turning to NASCAR, with the Sunflower State steeped in car racing culture. It is home to the Kansas Speedway, a 1.5-mile tri-oval race track that will be hosting the NASCAR Cup Series race in September.
Hollywood Casino will introduce its Barstool Sportsbook to the track and rebrand the race name to “Hollywood Casino 400 presented by Barstool Sportsbook.”
NASCAR Hall of Famer and broadcast analyst Rusty Wallace announced the renaming of the race and the building of the sportsbook at a press conference on Wednesday.
Built in 2001, Kansas Speedway hosts two annual NASCAR race weekends and pioneered the IndyCar Series in the 2000s. The speedway has always been an interesting track, giving teams and drivers the opportunity to change the entire course of their entire season. With its notoriously unpredictable track, Kansas has had 16 different winners in 32 races.
Hollywood Casino has already begun construction on a temporary brick-and-mortars Barstool Sportsbook. The rebranding signals an increased tie-in between the casino company and Kansas Speedway.
Fans will be able to wager on NASCAR and other sports during the September 9-11 race weekend. Wallace believes sports betting and NASCAR are a good fit given the unpredictability of the sport with its new Next Gen cars and tight competition.
Hollywood Casino already has shown interest in retail racing sportsbooks of a different kind, at Penn National Race Course, Pennsylvania. It has set up a casino at this famed horse racing track, which features over 2,400 star-studded slot machines and 52 table games.
