The casino donated 192 boxes of food as well as $20,000 to aid in Hoosier hunger relief.

The Horseshoe Hammond Casino has teamed up with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to relieve hunger throughout the Hammond and East Chicago area.

As part of the Senior Pantry Pack initiative, 20 volunteers from the casino helped sort and pack 192 boxes of perishable food items that are scheduled to go out to residents in the next few weeks. Horseshoe Hammond also gave $20,000 to support the food bank.

Horseshoe Hammond Casino Vice President and Assistant General Manager Noah Hirsch commented: “The work that the Northwest Indiana Food Bank does throughout our communities is vitally important, and Horseshoe Hammond is excited to help support the Senior Pantry Pack Initiative.

“Our team was appreciative to have the opportunity to tour the Food Bank, pack boxes, and play a part in the fight against food insecurities in our community. We look forward to our continued partnership with the Northwest Indiana Food Bank.”

Horseshoe Hammond has a history of philanthropy. The casino donated more than $150,000 in money and items to aid in various charitable causes over the past year. Its volunteers have also given a combined total of more than 2,500 hours of service.

Other partnerships Horseshoe Hammond has formed to give back to the local community include those with Haven House Foundation, Salvation Army, Mental Health America of Northwest Indiana, Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, and South Shore Arts.

Its latest humanitarian projects will be through a collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, along with sponsoring a Relay for Life event with the American Cancer Society.

Horseshoe Hammond has also partnered with Meals on Wheels and will aid in delivering meals starting next month.

Food Bank of Northwest Indiana’s VP Development & Communications Amy Briseno said: “These awarded funds from Caesars Foundation, facilitated locally by Horseshoe Hammond, is a tremendous help to our ability to reach homebound seniors in our community.

“The support the team provided to pack these food assistance boxes is also so greatly appreciated.”

Horseshoe Hammond is a Caesars Entertainment property located in northwest Indiana, within a 20-minute drive of downtown Chicago. The 400,000 square-foot casino features a retail sportsbook, slot machines, table games and a concert venue.
