Redzone Co-Founder: NFL draft betting set to “blow away” previous records

According to US sports bookmaker Redzone and its Co-Founder Steve Baumohl, the NFL draft is set to become the biggest live sport betting event since coronavirus began necessitating lockdowns across the globe.

Despite the socially-distanced event now taking place via Zoom instead of in Las Vegas, Baumohl believes NFL draft markets with UK bookmakers will see record levels of activity this Thursday when the draft takes place.

Last year, the UK industry saw approximately £250,000 ($308,436) in turnover on the draft, while the US saw $3.5m.

However, this year RedZone predicts the US market will see more than $30m in turnover, and more than £5m in the UK - making it the biggest draft to date in terms of betting activity.

Viewing figures are also expected to increase, resembling those of a typical Monday night NFL Game, with as many as 80 million total viewers in the US.

Baumohl said: “It will absolutely blow away all previous records of draft betting turnover; it already has!

“Other than the Virtual Grand National, I can’t think of any single event that generated as many bets as we are on track to see on the draft.

“The unfortunate current situation has catapulted an already ascending event into mega status in the UK.”
