Harrah’s Resort Southern California has honored the latest iteration of a marketing ploy to lure players and revelers to its casino: the appointment of a celebrity mayor for its recently-coined location known as Funner, California.
This year the mayor is actress Jane Lynch. She was sworn in during a ceremony in which she dressed in a purple suit and was accompanied by a live falcon.
Previous mayors used by the land-based operators based out of Las Vegas include Rob Riggle and the superstar of Baywatch fame, David Hasselhoff.
Jane Lynch herself has had a long and varied career. Among her film credits are Best in Show, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013.
Said Senior Vice President and General Manager of Harrah’s Resort SoCal Jill Barrett on the move: “Jane Lynch embodies the ideals of Funner. She is the prime elected official to be the next leader... given her unparalleled ability to share the Funner state of mind with everyone she comes across.”
Barrett then noted some of the offerings that were being debuted by Lynch at the ceremony: “Mayor Jane is already hard at work, rolling out a brand new zero-proof cocktail menu, vegan culinary offerings, two custom spa treatments and the trust mayoral hotline.”
Such celebrity-driven marketing ploys are not a bad idea for a casino that is itself nearer than most to the beating heart of the entertainment industry, in a mountain valley on the San Luis Rey River, between Los Angeles and San Diego.
The destination is owned by the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians and operated by Caesars Entertainment.
