National Council on Problem Gambling awards grant money

Four recipients will get $137,000 in total.
The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has announced an initial round of funding for its Agility Grant recipients in FY 2022. In total, there will be four cash awards that will come to $137,000.
Though guided by the NCPG, the initiative is funded by the National Football League Foundation and FanDuel.
The aim of the program is to develop programs that will help alleviate issues surrounding problem gambling in the United States.
The four initiatives receiving funds are the following: a gambling prevention program at the Towson University Foundation; a youth project developed by the Oklahoma Association on Problem Gambling and Gaming; a teen-centered program from the non-profit group Nicasa which seeks to raise awareness of the issue; and the Visión y Compomiso’s California-based educational initiative.
According to the NCPG, instances of problem gambling have risen by over 50% since the overturning of PASPA in 2018 opened the floodgates for legalized mobile sports betting.
Comments from NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte elaborated on the need for targeted programs to address this issue: “NCPG is proud to support each Agility Grant awardee as they work within their communities to bring about positive social change. We recognize the creativity and dedication of every applicant.”
Whyte then spoke of more to come in the near future: “We look forward to the opportunity to bring even more support to the problem gambling prevention field later this year with our second grant application cycle.”
Gaming America had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Whyte in a Huddle video interview which can be found here.
