NorthStar Gaming has brought broadcaster Rod Black into its orbit as a host and brand ambassador ahead of the launch of single-event sports betting in Canada on April 4.
Black will host shows across the NorthStar Bets brand’s social media channels and in-app platform.
Black brings to the role a wealth of experience and great notoriety as a sportscaster. Prior to this he worked at Bell Media, offering his play-to-play commentary on the Canadian Football League, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Raptors. In addition to these mainstay gigs, he has also served as pundit for The Masters, the RBC Canadian Open and five Olympic games.
His performances have not been without adulation, and he has received a Sports Media Canada Award for Outstanding Sports Broadcaster as well as five nominations for the Gemini Award for Canada’s Best Sportscaster.
NorthStar Gaming CEO Michael Moskowitz noted the audience’s familiarity with Black as a primary cause to his coming aboard: “Rod is a familiar voice and face to Canadian sports fans and a perfect fit to champion the NorthStar Bets platform and educate consumers about our content-driven experience.
“We’re thrilled Rod is joining the NorthStar Bets team and bringing his expansive knowledge of all major leagues across North America as we establish ourselves as leaders in the intersection of sports media and betting.”
Black himself expressed excitement at the move: “It’s an exciting time for sports fans across Ontario and I look forward to introducing them to the NorthStar Bets brand and platform.
“Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to cover some of the biggest moments in Canadian sports history, but what I’ve always enjoyed is the ability to interact and engage with passionate fans, something I look forward to continuing to do as a NorthStar Bets host and ambassador.”
In addition to enlisting Rod Black, NorthStar Bets has also hired NHL maven Chris Johnson to cover both the Toronto Maple Leaves and the league at large.
