As the industry edges ever closer to the launch of single-event sports betting and iGaming in the Canadian province of Ontario, theScore has opened pre-registration for its sportsbook app, theScore Bet.
Players can now download and install theScore Bet on iOS devices via the App Store. To celebrate this, theScore is set to host a launch party for bettors across the region. This party, named “Home Opener”, will take place from April 2-4 in Toronto.
“Millions of Ontarians already know and love theScore, and we are excited to introduce them to theScore Bet as part of our pre-registration roll out. We are ready and eager for the legal market to open on April 4 and look forward to showcasing our fully integrated media and betting experience,” noted John Levy, CEO of theScore.
The operator, which has long been a sports media company in Canada and the US, launched its mobile sportsbook in 2019. Recently, the operator spoke with Gaming America ahead of iGaming’s launch in its home province.
“Ontario is an interesting market; from a size perspective it’s the equivalent of the fifth-largest state in the US,” said Aubrey Levy, Senior VP of Content and Marketing at theScore.
“In a lot of ways it is going to be the most commercially friendly. With that being said, Ontario is also taking the perspective to put more responsible gaming parameters on the type of marketing you can do there.
“This is a direct attempt to try and prevent some of the marketing that has been happening in the US, where you just get huge sign-up offers all the time. What you will see is that the province will be very competitive but will lend itself to operators who have differentiated offerings. It will be very different to the US market for sure.”
As things stand, there is no shortage of operators and suppliers looking to profit off of the launch of iGaming and sports betting in Ontario. Recently, Kambi, a giant of the sports betting industry, announced its intentions to enter the market at launch.
