William Hill enters Michigan market with tribal deal

William Hill has agreed to a Michigan market access partnership with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB).
As part of the deal, William Hill will provide the tribe with online sports betting and online casino gambling throughout the state.
GTB plans to open a WIlliam Hill sportsbook at Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel and a satellite sportsbook at Leelanau Sands Casino and Lodge later this year pending approval.
Joe Asher, CEO of William Hill, said: “We are pleased to have found a great partner in the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and look forward to working with the Tribe to bring a leading retail and online sports betting experience to sports fans in Michigan. Michigan will be a key state in William Hill’s U.S. expansion due to its large population and deep rooted-sports culture with so many popular college and pro sports teams.”
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed sports betting into law in December, and the state is expected to launch sports wagering by March Madness.
Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel is located in northwest Michigan along Lake Michigan.
Michael Schrader, CEO of Grand Traverse Resort and Casinos, said: “William Hill’s expertise in sports betting operations and marketing and strategic media partnerships will ensure that we are able to attract customers from throughout the State of Michigan to the online products while offering another great amenity to attract guests to our casinos”
