Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, FanDuel and Rush Street Interactive will launch their online offerings as New York begins its much-awaited sports betting debut.

New York mobile sports betting is finally here. Set to launch on Saturday, January 8 2022, the state has granted sports betting licenses to four prominent operators. While Saturday will see DraftKings, Caesars Entertainment, FanDuel and Rush Street Interactive launch their online platforms, the New York State Gaming Commission has said that five other operators will soon gain access to the region.

Indeed, the Commission noted that Wynn Interactive, Resorts World, BallyBet, BetMGM and PointsBet will be the next operators to enter this exciting market following the meeting of statutory and regulatory requirements.

A number of operators have commented on the announcement, expressing their excitement ahead of launch.

Richard Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer of RSI, had this to say ahead of BetRivers' launch this weekend: “The long-awaited launch of online and mobile sports betting in New York – the largest online sports betting market by population in the United States – is here, and just in time. With the college football championship game on January 10 and NFL playoffs approaching, and the NBA and NHL seasons in full swing, in addition to countless other sports and betting options available for play, fans have endless entertainment at their fingertips at BetRivers.”

This announcement sees RSI become one of only three operators to be licensed across the broader tri-state region of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

“We are excited to finally be able to offer millions of passionate New York sports fans the top rated DraftKings mobile and online Sportsbook,” added Jason Robins, CEO, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, DraftKings.

“We want to extend a special thanks to Governor Hochul, Senator Addabbo, Assemblyman Pretlow, the New York Gaming Commission along with the tireless efforts of our dedicated DraftKings team for making this a reality.”

Sports betting in the Empire State is projected to be worth upwards of $1bn in revenue annually and with the state's notably high 51% tax rate, the region is sure to reap the benefits of this decision.

Ultimately, New York is primed to become one of the largest markets in the country, with 10 professional sports teams in six leagues, New York City has a long and storied history in sports. It is set to become one of only 18 states with online sports betting, despite retail being legal in 32.
