Comes as the region prepares to launch its regulated sports betting and iGaming market.

The digital media and sports betting platform, theScore, has achieved GLI-33 certification for its full suite of sports betting and iGaming offerings for Ontario.

This marks an important step for the Penn National Gaming subsidiary, as the company moves one step closer to becoming a regulated operator in the region.

“We’re pleased to be one of the first online gaming operators to secure GLI-33 certification in Ontario,” said John Levy, CEO of theScore.

The GLI-33 certification aims to provide independent technical analysis to wagering industry stakeholders, highlighting whether an operator meets the internationally recognized standards set by Gaming Laboratories.

“We are eager to launch theScore Bet in our home market and showcase our unrivaled combination of media and gaming to fans across the province. This approval is a credit to our first-rate product and engineering team who have been hard at work to ready theScore Bet for launch in Ontario.”

This news follows a year of progress for Canadian sports betting. 2021 has seen the country pass legislation allowing single sports betting as it looks to capitalize on the unseen growth occurring in the United States.

TheScore is expected to launch its offering side-by-side with a number of other operators in early 2022.

Originally focused on delivering live scores, news and stats, theScore has since launched its betting app ‘theScore Bet’ which is currently operational in New Jersey, Colorado, Indiana and Iowa.

As part of Penn National’s sports betting offering, theScore is set to be utilized alongside Barstool Sports to boost the company’s North American position.
