Wynn Interactive, the online gaming division of Wynn Resorts and operator of WynnBET, has announced the appointment of Ian Williams as President. Per the appointment, Williams is set to oversee the global day-to-day operations of the gaming juggernaut.
With 20 years of experience in the Industry, Williams first joined WynnBet as Chief Operating Officer in October 2021.
Previously, the Wynn Interactive executive worked as Churchill Downs’ President of Online Gaming, aiding the company in its growth throughout the US and North America in a tenure marked by record profitability and handle. In this role, Williams was also responsible for leading the development and launch of Churchill Downs’ real money sports and iGaming platform.
The founder of Thistle Gaming, a real-time sports data distributor, and Leeds Metropolitan University graduate has 17 years of experience as a C-level executive in the US, while also helming positions in the UK and Canada.
This news comes just weeks after the announcement that Wynn Resorts’ CEO Matt Maddox would step down from his position in January, 2022, handing over the reins to Craig Billings.
Speaking on this Wynn Resorts' Chairman of the Board of Directors, Phil Satre, noted: “As often happens with talented people, they have their own plans. Matt has been with the company for 20 years and is 46 years old; any future contract extension would have bound him to the company until he was in his 50s. Matt wants to explore opportunities outside of gaming and now is the right time for him to do that from a career standpoint. I commend him for it, even as I regret it.
“Matt led our company through two of the most fundamentally challenging events any executive could possibly expect: the abrupt departure of a founder and a pandemic.”
