IGT tabs Joe Asher to lead sports betting unit

Asher joins IGT after nine years leading William Hill.

Former William Hill CEO has been appointed International Game Technology’s (IGT) President of Sports Betting effective Oct. 1.

Asher will lead the company’s ongoing expansion of IGT’s PlaySports sports betting platform in North American markets. He will report to Enrico Drago, CEO of Digital & Betting.

Asher spent nine years as CEO of William Hill U.S. and 13 total years with the British sportsbook. He led William Hill U.S. until April 2021 when the company was acquired by Caesars Entertainment for $3.7bn.

I have some background working in partnership with PlaySports and I look forward to working with our team to further enhance our technology and trading capabilities to serve our existing and future customers."

Added Drago, "The PlaySports sports betting solution is among the most widely used in the U.S., powering approximately 50 U.S. sportsbooks for 20 customers across 18 states. We expect continued growth in our PlaySports business, and Joe Asher's knowledge, experience, network and vision for sports betting are key ingredients to boosting our future success.”

In recent weeks, IGT Playsports has expanded into Washington, Colorado and Wisconsin. IGT The B2B sports betting platform is also powering FanDuel’s sportsbook launch in Connecticut at Mohegan Sun.
