Specifically, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe’s amended gaming compact with the state of Connecticut was entered into the Federal Register this week. This means that both the Mohegan Tribe and The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe are federally approved to begin operating on the proposed date of October 7.
The Federal Register statement says: “This notice announces the approval of the Agreement Between the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe of Indians of Connecticut (Tribe) and the State of Connecticut (State) to amend the Tribe's Secretarial Procedures and Memorandum of Understanding (Amendment).”
Similarly to the approval letter published for the Mohegan Tribe, this allows the Pequots to launch mobile and retail sportsbooks, as well as iCasino products.
Per the Amended compact, Pequot’s property will be entitled to operate a sportsbook with its sports betting partner DraftKings, and a lottery with Rush Street Interactive.
As sports betting moves closer to launch the state of Connecticut has made steps to ensure safe gambling is adhered to across the state. On September 27 the state launch its online platform allowing people to voluntarily opt-out of being able to gamble.
Speaking on the new self-exclusion scheme, Diana Goode, executive director of the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling, said: “In the problem gambling community, self-exclusion is an essential step in helping people who are addicted. By creating a barrier from participating, it allows those in recovery a much-needed respite from triggers and reduces the likelihood of relapse.”
