NFL suspends player for betting on league games

The NFL has suspended Josh Shaw of the Arizona Cardinals for wagering on multiple league games this season.
Shaw is suspended indefinitely through the 2020 season. He will be eligible to petition for reinstatement in February 2021.

According to an NFL investigation, the league found no evidence  Shaw wagered on any games involving the Cardinals.

The 27-year old has spent the entire 2019 season on the NFL’s injured reserve.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said: “The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate in the league. At the core of this responsibility is the longstanding principle that betting on NFL games, or on any element of a game, puts at risk the integrity of the game, damages public confidence in the NFL, and is forbidden under all circumstances.”

The NFL prohibits employees from wagering on games, offering inside information or visiting a sportsbook during the season.

The league also asks its employees to refrain from daily fantasy games.
