Wyoming became the first state in 2021 to pass a sports betting bill and begin accepting wagers, as the Cowboy State went live Wednesday with the approval of DraftKings and BetMGM.

DraftKings was the first operator in Wyoming to receive an online sports betting license. Within hours DraftKings began accepting bets on its mobile app.

Wyoming is the 13th state in which DraftKings has launched online wagering. The operator is offering customers a variety of promotions, including several related to the University of Wyoming football team, which opens its season Saturday at home against Montana State.

“Legalized sports betting has seen wide-spread growth in just three years and the DraftKings Sportsbook has been at the center of the action,” said Matt Kalish, co-founder and President, DraftKings North America. “We are thrilled that Wyoming sports bettors have the opportunity to experience the highly accessible and immersive fan experience along with best in class consumer protections that our product offers millions of skin-in-the-game sports fans.”

BetMGM was the second operator to launch online wagering in Wyoming. BetMGM is now active in 14 states.

"We're ecstatic that BetMGM is one of the first mobile sports betting platforms to launch in Wyoming, just in time for the start of the football season," said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt. "Wyoming is an important state for us as we continue to expand BetMGM's footprint in the West. We're confident that its sports fans will enjoy the BetMGM experience."

Barstool Sportsbook and FanDuel are expected to launch in Wyoming in the coming days or weeks.

Wyoming’s sports betting law requires operators to pay a $100,000 initial five-year permit and a $50,000 renewal fee. Sports betting revenue is taxed at 10%.

With an adult population of approximately 440,000 people, Wyoming is the least populated state to launch sports betting.
