Former NFL and ESPN CEO appointed by Genius Sports

Steve Bornstein will take on the executive role of president, North America.

Genius Sports, the data and technology platform, has today announced the appointment of Steve Bornstein (pictured) in the newly created executive role of president, North America. The former ESPN and NFL Network CEO will lead the company’s US and Canadian activities.

Bornstein has a long career working in sports media, named ESPN’S CEO at 38; he was also the founder of the NFL Network and held the role of chairman of Activision’s esports division.

Genius Sports hopes that its new president will aid in optimizing the company’s regional infrastructure and accelerate growth in new fields such as streaming. Furthermore Bornstein will be expected to unlock greater value out of the company’s existing partners including the NFL, NCAA, NASCAR, NBA and MLB.

“Steve is an accomplished, forward-thinking executive who brings more than 30 years of sports media experience,” said Genius Sports’ CEO Mark Locke.

“As we continue to execute on our growth strategy in North America, we look forward to benefiting from a visionary like Steve who played a major role in shaping the growth and success of iconic brands like ESPN and the NFL. As a leader, he exemplifies the values set out at Genius and will help us progress our culture of collaboration and innovation.”

Steve Bornstein will work with the company’s executive team to identify innovative and revenue accretive acquisition targets.

Genius Sports currently has over 400 partnerships with sports brands and leagues including the NFL, EPL, NASCAR and the PGA. The sports platform is utilized in 150 countries.
