The Great Canadian Gaming Corporation reopened the Pickering Casino Resort today as the Ontario-based company looks to relaunch all its properties in line with Covid-19 guidelines.
The casino has opened its doors to patrons to use the property’s 2,400 slot machines, 100 live table games and 140 live dealer stadium gaming terminals. However, due to restrictions, there will still be some limitations in place, including enforced social distancing rules.
In a statement via Twitter the company said: “We’re ready to welcome you, safely this morning! Our casino doors open at 10:00 am, no reservations are required, walk-ups are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis, occupancy permitting. We hope to see you today!”
The Great Canadian Gaming Corporation detailed these plans in early July and hope to open its 12 other Ontario-based properties as restrictions continue to relax. These locations include, Great Blue Heron Casino, Casino Ajax, Elements Casino Mohawk, Elements Casino Flamboro, Elements Casino Brantford and Elements Casino Grand River among others.
"The opening of the casino at Pickering Casino Resort is yet another step towards our company's recovery from the impact of Covid-19, and means another 600 jobs created in the Durham Region in this first phase of the property's opening,” commented Terrance Doyle, the company's interim CEO.
"This will be Great Canadian's 25th property currently operating in Canada and the first casino resort opened in Ontario in 16 years, and I would like to thank all the hard work invested by our team, our contractors and other important stakeholders who have helped us achieve this incredible milestone."
Operating since 1982, the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation is based in Ontario and oversees 25 land-based properties throughout Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
