Will mark the 35th anniversary of the land-based casino.

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians plans to continue its push to hire more employees as the company prepares for phase one of its expansion project on July 24.

Phase one of San Manuel’s expansion, coming in time for the casinos 35th anniversary, will include a larger gaming space, a 24-hour restaurant, a high end restaurant and new on-site shops.

Furthermore, the casino will see an additional 1,300 slot machines added, making it the highest number in one building on the west coast.

“I’ve really enjoyed all the people I’ve worked with in each department, and it’s been fun for me,” said Karen Knight, table games floor supervisor. “It doesn’t even feel like 35 years. The time flies by but I’m having a good time.”

For the expansion to come, San Manuel must fill nearly 2,500 new positions by the end of 2021. This includes positions for chefs, cashiers, custodians and groundskeepers. Some of these jobs include $1,000 welcome bonuses.

“I remember sitting in the building when the tables were still being bolted into the floor, and the ceiling hadn’t been put in,” said Dianna Scina, director of experiential marketing and 35-year veteran employee. “There were about 100 employees talking about how San Manuel was going to be the biggest bingo hall and that we had a great opportunity for something that was new to the community. I worked for 35 years in the casino and now I get to be part of something that is absolutely giving back to the Tribe.”

Later in the year, San Manuel plans to open their first on-site hotel, featuring 432 rooms, as well as multiple dining spaces and event venues.
