May saw nearly all Covid restrictions lifted throughout the state of Louisiana and New Orleans benefited the most then as revenue across its casinos saw a rise.
Harrah’s, the Slots at the Fair Grounds Racetrack and The Three Riverboats recorded combined revenue of $56.3m throughout May according to the Louisiana Gaming Control Board’s figures. This represents an increase of 2.2% from April where the revenue raised was $55.1m
This increase comes just under a year after casinos re-opened with heavy Covid restrictions. May 2021, as residents continue to receive their vaccines, has seen more or less all restrictions removed from the state, including the mask mandate.
But while New Orleans has seen a positive response to the lifting of restrictions, the overall gaming revenue for Louisiana in May is down. Video poker revenue for May was down 8.3% from April with income of $77.6m and $84.7m respectively.
However, this is still an impressive increase from the funds brought in by video poker during the height of the pandemic in May 2020, which saw the state earn $23.9m.
Harrah’s New Orleans saw an individual increase of 6.7%, from $25.1 to $26.8m. While Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City saw the biggest percentage increase from April with a revenue growth of 8.2% from $16.3m to $17.6m.
Kenner’s Treasure Chest Casino also saw a boost in revenue, recording $9.2m, a 3.9% increase from April when $8.8m was earned.
Yet Delta Downs in Vinton was the only casino to record an overall loss for the month of May. Their income went from $16.7m to $16.6m a decrease of only 0.9%.
