Instant lottery games were all the rage in the Volunteer State last week, as players snapped up $47.1m in tickets in the seven-day period ending 10 April.
Officials for the Tennessee Education Lottery said the figure set a new record for sales in a single week.
Specifically, 6 April saw more than $10.1m in instant games sales, the second-highest single-day mark in the state’s history.
The only day with more instant games tickets sold was the day the Tennessee Lottery made its debut, on 20 January, 2004.
Lottery officials said sales were steady the rest of last week, even as it started with the two slowest days: $4.7m on 4 April and $5.3m on 5 April.
After the big surge on 6 April, momentum continued with $7.3m in sales on 7 April, followed by more than $6.8m on both 8 and 9 April. The week concluded with $5.7m in tickets sold on 10 April.
The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation operates entirely from the revenue generated through the sale of its products. Since its launch in 2004, the TEL has raised more than $5.7 billion to fund designated education programs, including college grants, scholarships, Drive to 55 initiatives and after-school programs.
During the first two quarters of FY2021, the Tennessee Lottery transferred a total of $231.1m to the state’s education fund.
The TEL will announce its FY2021 Q3 transfer later this month.
In addition to the educational beneficiaries, players have won more than $15.8 billion in prizes and Lottery retailers have earned more than $1.4 billion in commissions.
