Soper will direct MGE’s Inspire Korea integrated resort development and lead the company’s joint bid for an integrated resort license in Nagasaki, Japan with Oshidori International.
Soper most recently served as President and CEO of Sun Gaming & Hospitality. He has also served as President & CEO of Mohegan Sun Pocono in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and President & CEO of Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
"Having served the Mohegan Tribe and MGE for many years, we are confident in Bobby's experience and capabilities to guide our efforts on the ground in Asia," said James Gessner, Jr., Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe. "Bobby's leadership and presence representing MGE will serve as a catalyst and result in significant progress with both of these important international project commitments."
Soper’s appointment comes a week after MGE announced Mario Kontomerkos will step down as CEO at the end of March. COO Ray Pineault will serve as Interim CEO while the company seeks a permanent replacement.
The Connecticut-based developer and operator has expanded its footprint to five states, a casino in Canada and soon Inspire Korea. The integrated resort will be located at Incheon International Airport and is set to open 2022.
