Missouri estimated to generate $3.88bn sports betting handle in first year of operation

BetMissouri Analyst Christopher Boan has released new projections for how much handle the newly regulated sports betting market in Missouri will generate once operations officially begin on December 1, 2025.
Boan estimated Missouri bettors will produce a handle of $3.88bn over the first year of operations, running through December 1, 2026, as well as nearly $65.7m in wagers from December 1, 2025 to December 7.
The state is projected to generate a first-month handle of just over $262.6m, despite Missouri launching its regulated sports betting market after the NFL regular season began in September.
Boan stated local sporting events such as St. Louis Blues home games and a December 7 matchup for the Kansas City Chiefs NFL franchise will help offset potential losses in handle from debuting the market at the conclusion of 2025.
“If Missouri reaches our four-month projection of $1.05bn, it would rank third among the five benchmark states we analyzed, trailing only Massachusetts and Maryland but surpassing Colorado, Tennessee and Indiana,” Boan said.
“That’s a promising signal for how quickly Missourians could embrace regulated wagering. Should these projections hold, sports betting could represent not only a new entertainment avenue for fans but also a meaningful, sustainable revenue stream for the state’s education system.”
Boan also stated the projections were based upon demographic data, historical launch trends from comparable states and local fan engagement to estimate Missouri’s potential handle across key launch periods.
On August 15, the Missouri Gaming Commission chose to award both DraftKings and Circa Sports direct sports betting licenses, granting each operator the ability to offer sports wagering services within the state without a casino or professional sports team partner.
Operators such as FanDuel and Fanatics sportsbook eventually formed partnerships to gain market access in Missouri, including collaborations with the St. Louis City FC professional soccer team and Boyd Gaming, respectively.
