Viña del Mar Mayor vows to safeguard casino operations after Enjoy exit

The future of the Viña del Mar casino has come under scrutiny following Enjoy’s decision to relinquish its license ahead of schedule. 

The move was authorized by the Council of the Superintendence of Gambling Casinos with three votes in favor, one abstention and one vote against. 

Mayor Macarena Ripamonti described the situation as complex and confirmed that the municipality is working with lawyers to explore all possible actions to guarantee the protection of workers and the continuity of operations. 

She noted that while licenses can typically only be lost through serious violations, the regulator recently created a special clause allowing for early resignation.

Regional Governor Rodrigo Mundaca, the only official who voted against Enjoy’s request, stressed that new operators could present bids within the next three years. 

He also demanded that any new concessionaire be subject to the same material conditions as the current operator.

Good to know: Enjoy will remain in charge of the casino until 2028

Mundaca announced that he will meet with the casino’s workforce, which numbers more than 600 employees, to thoroughly discuss the situation. 

Both local and regional authorities have emphasized that employment security and service continuity will remain top priorities during the transition process.

Meanwhile, in Talca, Dreams has begun construction on a new casino project despite environmental concerns raised by local groups.
