Garment District Alliance Officers Committee affirms Caesars Palace Times Square project

The Garment District Alliance Officer’s Committee has offered its support for the Caesars Palace Times Square project.
The group sent a letter to Council Member Erik Bottcher that affirmed the bid, as part of the review process. The project had its final hearing earlier this week. Bottcher was one of the key decision makers involved.
The committee listed several potential benefits for allowing the project to move forward, including “repurposing an existing building, prohibiting gambling on the ground floor, generating revenue for both the neighborhood and the city, and limiting hotel rooms, restaurants and retail in order to drive visitors to local businesses.”
SL Green EVP Brett Herschenfeld commented, “We heard from the Garment District Alliance officers that the Garment District is in need of capital investment and enhanced security for the public realm. We are proud that Caesars Palace Times Square will directly address these needs with millions in investments for the neighborhood that will help improve and enhance the area.
“This project has always been guided by what the surrounding community needs, and we are thrilled to have the support of the Garment District Alliance Officers Committee.”
Caesars teamed up last year with SL Green and rapper Jay-Z’s Roc Nation to submit its Time Square casino bid for the building at 1515 Broadway in New York City.
The Caesars Palace Times Square joint bid has several supporters, despite some opposition. Local hotel chains, as well as the Actors’ Equity Association and Local 802 have voiced their support of the project.
