Argentina: Santa Cruz Lottery completes online gambling prevention program

Key Points
- The program was organized by the Directorate of Training and Research on Responsible Gambling, and led by Ayelén Álvarez
- More than 200 participants attended the sessions, which included panels by Sedronar, Córdoba Lottery and the group Ni un pibe menos por la droga
The Santa Cruz Lottery in Argentina has concluded a series of prevention sessions on online gambling, with a focus on raising awareness among young people.
The program was coordinated by the Directorate of Training and Research on Responsible Gambling, led by Ayelén Álvarez. Student councils from public, semi-private and private schools participated in the closing session.
The final day featured two panels. The first was presented by Silvio Hotman and Miguel Galarza, representatives of the group Ni un pibe menos por la droga (“Not one kid less because of drugs”). The second was led by Córdoba Lottery psychologist Andrea Spinardi.
Álvarez explained that the initiative addressed illegal gambling among minors and related problematic behaviors. The Secretariat of Comprehensive Policies on Drugs of the Argentine Nation (Sedronar) contributed with a case study, while Spinardi’s session led a workshop to promote direct dialogue with adolescents.
More than 120 people attended the six panels held on the first day, and around 80 participated in the final session. Álvarez noted that this was the first stage of a broader program aimed at reaching other parts of Santa Cruz province and placing the issue on the public agenda.
Good to know: The Santa Fe Lottery launched a campaign to prevent gambling among minors at Newell’s and Central soccer clubs, focusing on awareness through education
The event was organized following a preparatory meeting convened by the Government of Santa Cruz, with several ministries and institutions to discuss gambling among minors and prevention strategies.
The Lottery for Social Action Works (LOAS), led by Claudia Pavez, collaborated in the organization. Pavez highlighted the need for coordinated policies and noted that this initiative represents an initial step toward extending prevention efforts across the province.
