Buenos Aires lawmaker denounces illegal gambling ads in subway

Key Points
- Ads for Betsson were found on Buenos Aires’ subway which legislators say violates local law
- The city law explicitly prohibits gambling promotion in public spaces
- Del Gaiso called for sanctions and an immediate removal of the advertisements
Facundo Del Gaiso, a legislator in the Buenos Aires City Legislature for the Coalición Cívica, has denounced the presence of gambling advertisements in lines of the city’s subway system.
According to his statement, ads for Betsson were displayed in the subway carriages, which he argued constitutes a breach of Law No.6.330.
The law expressly bans the diffusion or promotion of gambling and betting in public spaces, whether through static, digital or any other formats.
Del Gaiso said that both the Buenos Aires Lottery and the city’s Government, which owns the subway network through the operator Sbase, were already aware of the issue. He demanded the removal of the adverts and the sanctioning of those responsible.

“The presence of gambling advertising in the subway is an affront to the law and a lack of respect for residents,” he argued, noting that similar complaints had already been made about illegal ads in cinema screenings.
The legislator stressed that such messages risk exposing children and adolescents who use the subway daily to gambling-related content.
Del Gaiso also presented a bill to double the gross income tax rate on online betting in the city from 6% to 12%.
