- An investigation is currently underway
An ongoing investigation in the state of Nevada has revealed evidence that “malicious actors” have moved data outside of Nevada’s state networks, according to a recent Las Vegas Review-Journal news report.
The attack was detected early August 24, according to the local report. As a result, the Governor’s Technology Office put its cybersecurity response plan in action and worked to contain the threat, the Review-Journal reported.
The data was moved during “sophisticated, ransomware-based” cyberattack, local officials told the Review-Journal.
The recent cyberattack has affected several state services for the past few days, the local report said.
This has also caused delays in the state’s monthly gaming reports.
Tim Galluzi, Executive Director of the Governor’s Technology Office, explained the situation in more detail to local reporters during a recent press conference.
He commented, “I need to be very clear on this next point: At this stage of our intensive investigation, we cannot yet identify or classify the specific nature of this data.”
However, Galluzi said it is unclear what data was affected without additional proof.
He told reporters, “What I can promise you is this: Our investigation is our No. 1 priority. Should we determine that any sensitive personal information of our citizens was compromised, we are prepared to follow the appropriate steps.”
According to the local report, Gov. Joe Lombardo’s previously state there was no evidence anyone’s personal information was compromised.
However, Galluzi said the investigation revealed “an unknown type of data was taken from the system.”
