Louisiana gaming revenue rises 9.8% to $198.6m for July 2025

The Louisiana State Police have reported gaming activity for land-based casinos, riverboat properties and racetrack slot machines throughout July 2025, as total gaming revenue increased 9.8% from the prior year period to $198.6m in adjusted gross revenue (AGR). 

Riverboat casinos managed to increase its revenue by 9.4% year-over-year for a total of just over $151m, while slots located at racetrack facilities generated a July 2025 AGR of $26.3m, increasing 4.8%. The slot machine total was primarily driven by Delta Downs, which produced $14m of AGR throughout the month and increased 9.6%. 

Evangeline Downs and Fair Grounds both witnessed increases in revenue from the prior year period, rising 3.4% and 4.5%, respectively, for July 2025 totals of $6.3m and $3.1m, while Louisiana Downs reported a fall of 11.6% year-over-year to $2.8m. 

The leading riverboat facility in AGR produced for July 2025 was Golden Nugget Lake Charles, which reported a revenue figure of $27m and increased by 7.1%. L’Auberge Lake Charles increased its AGR by 7.1% year-over-year to $24.4m, while Horseshoe Bossier City generated $13.6m in July 2025 for growth of 57.7%. 

Caesars New Orleans, the only land-based casino to report revenue figures to the Louisiana State Police, increased its July 2025 AGR by 20.4% from the prior year period for a total of $21.3m. Properties in Louisiana which also witnessed an increase in AGR year-over-year include Treasure Chest Casino which grew 6.1% to $13.2m, L’Auberge Casino Hotel increasing 7.4% to $13.3m and The Queen of Baton Rouge rising to $0.8m and increasing 64.9%.

Margaritaville Resort Casino and Boomtown Casino & Hotel both reported decreases in revenue from the prior year period, however, falling 23.4% and 2.7%, respectively, for monthly totals of $11m and $8.2m. Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana, which debuted post-July 2024, managed to generate $9.4m throughout the period. 

In June 2025, Louisiana became the third US state this year to raise its online sports betting tax rate, following strong Senate support for HB 639. The Bill, which was introduced by State Representative Neil Riser and already approved by the House of Representatives, increases the tax rate from 15% to 21.5%. Retail sportsbook tax rates, currently set at 10%, will remain unchanged.
