Louisiana total gaming revenue reaches $236m for January, down 5% y-o-y

Louisiana total gaming revenue for January was $236m, a decrease of 5% year-on-year but a sizable improvement from the month prior.
The Pelican State reported riverboat casino win of $133m, which was down 8% y-o-y. However, riverboat revenue grew 9% from December, a sign that Louisiana’s most lucrative gaming properties are trending in a positive direction.
Of the 13 riverboats in operation last month, all but one reported revenue improvements between December and January.
Golden Nugget Lake Charles led the way with $26.8m, up 8% from December. Right behind was L’Auberge Lake Charles at $25.7m, a 10% improvement from the month prior.
Several other riverboat properties saw double-digit increases, including Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge, which grew 22% to $4.5m, up from $3.7m in December.
Margaritaville Resort Casino in Bossier City reported the greatest y-o-y growth at 36% with January revenue reaching $16m. Five other riverboats improved revenue y-o-y.
Louisiana’s one land-based casino, Harrah’s New Orleans, saw revenue drop 39% y-o-y to $14.9m, which was also a 10% decline from December. The Caesars property has been operating at 25% capacity.
Video poker at bars, restaurants, hotels, racetracks and truckstops brought in revenue of $61m for the month, with truckstops accounting for nearly $48m of the win. Total video poker revenue was up 18% y-o-y and up 12% from December.
Racetrack slots reported revenue of $27m, down 1.6% y-o-y but up 16% from December. Delta Downs, earned win of $14m, representing more than half of slots revenue for the month.
