Senator Sergio Moro has praised the Brazil Senate’s recent decision to postpone the vote on PL 2.234/2022, which would authorize land-based casinos, bingos and other forms of gambling across Brazil.
The senator argued that legalizing additional gambling formats would be premature given the ongoing “disorder” in the online betting sector.
“In the current scenario of unregulated betting, expanding gambling activities is not appropriate,” he said during a plenary speech. “While the issue of bets is not properly addressed, particularly regarding the need for a complete suppression or at least severe restrictions on advertising, we should not move forward.”
The bill had been scheduled for a vote but was removed from the agenda due to low attendance and strong opposition from some Senate members.
