Casinos continue to operate under severe Covid-19 related capacity restrictions.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board released brick-and-mortar figures Wednesday, which showed table games and slots generated $86.8m last month, a year-on-year drop of 27.8%.
Retail sports betting revenue was $4.06m with handle totaling $35.7m. The state will release January online sports betting numbers later this month.
MGM Grant Detroit and MotorCity Casino each earned 38% of market share of retail sports betting, while Greektown Casino had 24%.
MGM’s total gaming revenue for January was $34m, a y-o-y decline of 32%. MotorCity was right behind with $33.2m, a drop of 20.7%, while Greektown fell $30.4% to $19.6m.
Michigan took in $10.3m in wagering taxes last month.
Detroit’s casinos were closed between Nov. 18 and Dec. 23 due to rising Covid cases in the area. Upon reopening, casinos must limit 20 people per 1,000 square feet.
Michigan launched online sports betting on Jan. 22, giving sportsbooks about two weeks to collect Super Bowl wagers. The state simultaneously green-lighted online casino gaming, which includes online poker.
Close attention will be paid to Michigan’s inaugural online gaming figures when they are released.
