Businessman Antonio Ángel Tabanelli, Founder of Grupo Boldt, has passed away at the age of 90 in his apartment in the Belgrano neighborhood of Buenos Aires.
Tabanelli was born in Buenos Aires on March 23 1935 and started his business career at age 29, when he and a relative acquired 50% of Boldt Impresores and the Argentine branch of Lamson Paragon, a company specializing in printed forms.
In the 1980s, the two businesses were merged and a partnership was established with Esselte Security Systems, which supplied equipment for processing documentation used in state-run gambling. This led to the formation of Boldt S.A. in its current form.
Tabanelli held positions in business associations, including the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange and the Argentine Federation of the Graphic Industry. In 2012, he was involved in a dispute with then-Argentinian VP Amado Boudou related to the Ciccone printing case.
Boldt currently operates several casinos, including Trilenium in Tigre and others in Santa Fe, Melincué and coastal locations in the Buenos Aires province. The company also manages slot machines in the province, and has expanded into online betting and regional investments in Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Brazil.
Good to know: The Buenos Aires Stock Exchange honored Antonio Tabanelli for 50 years of service and his role in Boldt’s long-standing presence as a listed company on July 23
Beyond his business career, Tabanelli was also active in other sectors. He worked in livestock production and served as President of the Argentine Angus Association. He maintained a longstanding connection to rugby, having played for Hindú Club and later holding positions within the Argentine Rugby Union.
In March 2025, during his 90th birthday celebration, he remarked: “Argentina taught all of us to develop resilience.”
