MSG Networks Inc. on Thursday said it has developed a prediction gaming app that will allow fans the opportunity to win cash prizes during Knicks, Rangers, Islanders, Devils (pictured) and Sabres games.
The regional sports network operator said the free app, to be known as MSG Networks Pick ‘Em, was made in partnership with online sports-gaming technology provider Boom Sports.
MSG Networks plans to launch the app in March, when it will be available on iOS and Android.
The company said the games will consist of a series of predictive questions. Each basketball game will see cash prizes, while hockey games will have a progressive jackpot.
In 2018, MSG Networks integrated live stats and interactive games on its MSG GO streaming app, which it said encourages fans to play along with the actual game broadcast for a chance to win prizes.
The company said the new app is expected to “build off of engagement” from several initiatives, including the previous app, a daily fantasy-focused simulcast that began in 2018, sports betting-focused programming blocks, and short-form content acting as previews for game broadcasts.
“MSG Networks is thrilled to partner with Boom Sports on our new free-to-play app,” Peter Tulloch, SVP, digital products and distribution, MSG Networks, said in a statement. “We have seen firsthand how interactive games can help increase viewer engagement – including how long and how often they tune in.”
Tulloch predicted the app will “further deepen” MSG Networks’ connection with viewers, while developing new revenue opportunities.
“We are excited to be working with MSG Networks to create an app that will enrich the viewing experience, and also offer unique value in the form of user insights and a strategic digital asset,” added Greg Viverito, VP of partnerships, Boom Sports.
