- Senator Soraya Thronicke requested the summons
- Adélia Soares, the owner of Payflow, is under investigation for allegedly facilitating illicit financial activities and money laundering
The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry of Betting (CPI das Bets) will now hear the testimonies of a representative from Peach Blossom River Technology, and the lawyer Adélia de Jesus Soares will be heard on April 29 at 11am.
They will face the CPI das Bets, which investigates irregularities in the online betting sector, and are expecting to hear both testimonies as part of the investigation over the financial, social and regulatory impacts of online betting platforms in Brazil.
Senator Soraya Thronicke, from the Podemos-MS party, formerly known as the National Labour Party, requested the summons of Adélia Soares, the owner of Payflow Processadora de Pagamentos.
According to Senado Noticias, the official news outlet of the Senator’s chamber in Brazil, Soraya pointed out that the Civil Police of the Federal District’s investigations suggest that the company might have served as a cover for illicit financial activities and money laundering related to gambling. Additionally, the senator mentions that there are signs Payflow could have violated Central Bank regulations and could have links to a company located in the British Virgin Islands.
Regarding Peach Blossom River Technology, the testimony aims to clarify the company’s structure and verify whether there are existing corporate ties with Payflow. This comes after the Civil Police of the Federal District named the company in the investigation and may be involved in financial operations related to online betting platforms.
The committee may also consider two additional requests from Soraya: one to summon digital influencer Giliard Vidal dos Santos to testify, and another asking the Financial Activities Control Board to prepare a Financial Intelligence Report on him.
