Colombian influencer Karina Garcia under investigation for promoting illegal betting sites

Several Colombian influencers were included in a list of names that will be investigated over the publicity of illegal betting sites.
According to Infobae, one of the region ‘s largest newspapers, those under investigation include La Liendra, Epa Colombia, Yeferson Cossio and the central figure in the case, Karina García, who currently holds more than 3 million instagram followers.
García, who is currently participating in “La Casa de los Famosos,” a reality show featuring influencers, actors and public figures, was among 289 social media profiles the Colombian Government requested to block back in 2024. The request, made through Coljuegos with support from the National Police, targeted content creators allegedly promoting illegal betting sites.
According to Coljuegos, the request is supported by the promotion of gaming and gambling sites that do not have Colombian legal approval. This could develop into millionaire fines, that, in her case, are still to be determined.
Cases like Yeferson Cossio have already been solved: he was fined COP813m ($200,000) for misleading consumers with a course that promised quick and significant financial gains.
The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce explained that the promotions carried out by some of these influencers led consumers to expect quick and substantial profits, which violates consumer protection regulations.
Although no final ruling has been made in García’s case, her legal situation could become more complicated once her participation in the reality show concludes.
