Award-winning chef to open Vegas Strip restaurant

Chef Kwame Onwuachi, a James Beard Award-winning chef, has returned to Nevada and will open a restaurant in the Sahara Las Vegas space, according to a recent Las Vegas Review-Journal local report.
He told the publication, “I am excited for this next chapter, and the opportunity to bring a new culinary concept to Sahara Las Vegas and the city’s dynamic food scene.”
The new dining spot will be where Bazaar Meat is located. Bazaar Meat is scheduled to close after June 30, following more than a decade in business in that location “in advance of its move to The Venetian,” according to the local report.
Chef Onwuachi hails from New York City is known for cooking Nigerian, Creole and Afro-Caribbean influenced dishes. He currently owns Tatiana in Manhattan, as well as Dōgon in Washington, DC.
The award-winning chef has also written books, including his cookbook “My America” and his memoir “Notes from a Young Black Chef.”
Onwuachi’s memoir is being made into a feature film.
In other Las Vegas news, Fontainebleau Las Vegas recently appointed two executive officers, David Willis and Kevin Sweet.
Willis is now the casino resort’s Chief Strategy Officer, and Sweet stepped into the role of SVP of Slot Marketing and Operations.
The company said in a media release, “As Fontainebleau Las Vegas enters its second full year of operations, the luxury resort and casino is strengthening its leadership team with strategic hires that signal a bold approach to the future.”
Fontainebleau President Maurice Wooden said that the new officers “bring valuable leadership experiences and a collaborative approach that support our ongoing innovation and positive trajectory.”
