The Old Dominion is this week’s gold rush territory, following Michigan last week.

Two more sports betting options launched in Virginia today: BetMGM and Rush Street Interactive’s BetRivers.

With sports wagering spreading rapidly across the US, different locations are taking turns as the hotbed of new launches. Michigan was the focus of the industry last week, while Virginia takes center stage this time around.

BetMGM said its sports betting app will give customers access to benefits tied to MGM National Harbor in Maryland and MGM Resorts' casino-resorts throughout the US.

Virginia marks the 10th state in which BetMGM's mobile sports betting offering is available.

As reported by Gaming America, BetMGM recently announced a partnership with the Washington Nationals baseball team, which includes plans for a retail BetMGM sportsbook connected to Nationals Park. When it launches later this season, it will be BetMGM's first in-stadium sportsbook.

Elsewhere, Rush Street Interactive (RSI) said it has partnered with Rivers Casino Portsmouth, a $300m project scheduled to open soon, to gain access to the online sports betting market in the Commonwealth.

Virginia is the ninth state in which RSI offers sports betting. RSI said it has signed a long-term agreement to allow BetRivers to operate in Virginia for 20 years.

Rivers Casino said the BetRivers launch makes it the first land-based casino in the Commonwealth to launch an online sports betting partner.

“We are ecstatic that BetMGM is one of the first mobile sports betting platforms to launch in Virginia,” BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said in a statement. “BetMGM Virginia customers can earn benefits and will soon enjoy innovative experiences planned with MGM National Harbor in Maryland and the Washington Nationals.”

Jorge Perez, president and COO of MGM National Harbor, added: “The launch of the BetMGM app in Virginia gives our customers another great way to interact with our brand.”

Richard Schwartz, president of RSI, said: “We are pleased to add Virginia to the growing list of states that RSI and BetRivers.com call home as we continue to expand across the country.”
