Attorney General announces investigation into Texas lottery process

Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced that an investigation into the Texas lottery process is underway.
The investigation will look into two “two suspicious and possibly unlawful lottery ‘winnings’ that involved bulk lottery ticket purchases and the utilization of a third-party courier service,” the attorney general said.
It will also address if laws were broken on a federal or state level and will examine how large numbers of tickets can be obtained “in a short time span.”
Paxton said he believes players living in Texas deserve a better lottery system.
He further commented, “I’m deeply concerned about the integrity of our state’s lottery system, especially when it appears that non-citizens have shown that they are attempting to rig the system to win on demand.
“Texas citizens deserve far better than bad actors getting rich off of a lottery system that is open to exploitation, and we will hold anyone who engages in illegal activity accountable.”
In other state news, Governor Greg Abbott has publicly voiced his support for legalized gambling expansion within the Lone Star State, according to a local report in the Houston Chronicle.
He said during an exclusive interview with a local podcast that he “does not have a problem with online sports betting.”
Since the US Supreme Court overturned the federal ban on sports betting, 39 states and the District of Columbia have moved to legalize sports wagering in their territories.
To date, mobile sports betting is legal in 30 states.
